Louisville Urban League Hosts 19th Annual Career Expo Wednesday

“You see a sea of people and opportunities,” says the Louisville Urban League’s director for workforce development Juanita Sands describing the annual event at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Over 50 businesses and a dozen higher education institutions are expected to participate in the job expo where participants will have a chance to meet representatives from some of Louisville’s most well known companies like UPS and Norton Healthcare and also from some smaller companies. The event is designed for adults at least 18-years-old to network with representatives from various companies and to put the human element back into job searching, which has been moving online, she says. “You’re not able to pick up the phone and literally call a person and talk to a person about having applied to that position,” Sands says. Participation in the job fair has grown over the past several years, despite a slight dip last year, says Sands. There are typically between 1,500 to 2,000 job seekers in attendance. In 2011 around 3,500 were in attendance, she says. The free event is between 10 am and 4 pm Wednesday.
