Making of the Modern, Messy Middle East: Scott Anderson on "Lawrence in Arabia"

Turn back the clock to the outbreak of World War I, nearly 100 years ago, and the Middle East looked like a vastly different area. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Syria didn’t even exist. Those areas were part of the vast Ottoman Empire. It was during the great War that a young British officer, T.E. Lawrence — remembered as “Lawrence of Arabia” from the film — helped lead an Arab uprising to overthrow the Ottomans.War-Correspondent and author, Scott Anderson, revisits this period in his book, Lawrence in Arabia: War, Deceit, Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East.”
