Mammoth Cave Park Considers Fee Increases

Mammoth Cave National Park administrators are considering a proposal to increase fees for camping and cave tours.

The park is now taking public comment through Dec. 5.

Park Superintendent Sarah Craighead says the increases are expected to generate $350,000. The money would be used for multiple purposes, including paying tour guides and improving the Mammoth Cave Hotel.

Most cave tours would increase by $1 or $2. (Here are the prices posted to the park's website.)

The national park increased fees for some cave tours in 2013, but others haven't been changed in seven years. On the park’s website, Craighead said the cost of doing business has gone up each year.

Officials said 80 percent of the money collected at Mammoth Cave is used for park facilities and services.

The rest helps support projects around the park that do not charge entrance fees.
