McConnell Assails Health Care Law In Rotary Speech

U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky repeated his call today for the repeal of President Obama’s federal health care overhaul upheld last month by the Supreme Court. In a speech to the Louisville Rotary Club, the Senate Republican Leader called the Affordable Health Care Act  “too arrogant and too overreaching.”"To use a medical metaphor, what I would not have done is take out a meat axe to the entire American health care system.  I would have instead pulled out a scalpel, and say ‘let’s continue to work on these problems.’  And many of them (are) probably better handled at the state level," he said.McConnell said some of those problems could be solved by allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines, letting states deal with patients who have pre-existing conditions though high risk insurance pools, and placing curbs on medical malpractice suits. He said the country is at a major crossroads heading into the November elections, when Americans will decide who should set the next long-term agenda.
