Morning Snow Leads JCPS, Others to Close Tuesday; Others Delay

Update 8:45 a.m.: Latest from Transportation OfficialsHere's word from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District that covers Jefferson and other counties: KYTC road crews mobilized at midnight last night. They have been salting the roadways this morning since the precipitation started. With the snow coming down during rush hour, that delays our trucks from covering all of their routes as quickly as we would like due to the extra traffic on the roads. County crews are reporting light to moderate snow across the district. Roads are partly covered at this time. Trimble County has reported over an inch of snow and they are plowing as well as salting. Our staff will work throughout the day to get road conditions to wet pavement status.As for Louisville Metro, you can check where they've plowed so far here.This is Louisville Metro's status as of 8:50 a.m.:

If we're missing a school district, let us know here.Update 7:33 a.m.: The Weather SituationIt seems as if Tuesday morning's storm was worse than expected.  JCPS and other school districts closed Tuesday (see more below) after initially delaying classes.Jefferson County and surrounding counties in Kentucky are now under a Winter Weather Advisory until 11 a.m. The National Weather Service says a "fast moving band of snow" is moving through the area and dropping a "quick burst of snowfall." The weather service is now forecasting about an inch of snow in the Louisville area. Because the snow is happening during the morning commute, traffic issues may arise, the weather service said.And Archdiocese of Louisville schools in Jefferson Countyare now closed, too. So areClarksville Community Schools.Update 7:16 a.m.: JCPS Now ClosedJefferson County Public Schools are now closing on Tuesday; officials cite "deteriorating road conditions."As noted below, New Albany-Floyd County Schools, Greater Clark Schools and West Clark Schools are calling off classes for the day, too.And Clarksville Community Schools and Bullitt County Schools are closed  Tuesday, too.Earlier: Jefferson County Public Schools and other districts in the Louisville area have delayed the start of school Tuesday because of winter weather.Light snow is forecast in the Louisville area Tuesday morning—up to about a half-inch, the National Weather Service said. Some places may get closer to an inch,though the weather service said the snowfall should move out of the area by about 8 a.m.Other school districts delaying the start of school include: Greater Clark Schools, New Albany-Floyd County Schools and Clarksville Community Schools in Indiana and Oldham County Schools in Kentucky. University Hospital is open.IU Southeast is on atwo-hour delay, too.Update 6:20 a.m.: Bullitt CountyDelayed, tooBullitt County Public Schools are delaying the start of school by two hours, it said on Facebook.Update 6:25 a.m.: Early Childhood Education in JeffersonHere's a note from JCPS regarding the delay:  "(T)here is no transportation for Early Childhood. However, Early Childhood classes will be in session on a 2 hour delay."And Archdiocese of Louisville schools in Jefferson County are delayed, too.
