Muhammad Ali Receives Liberty Medal Tonight

Boxing legend and Louisville native Muhammad Ali will be presented with the 2012 Liberty Medal at the NationalConstitutionCenter in Philadelphia Thursday night.The award honors individuals of courage and conviction who strive to represent liberty to people around the world.Celebrities and Ali's wife, Lonnie, will present at the ceremony at Independence Mall in Philadelphia. The celebration is the center piece of the nationwide celebration of the U.S. Constitution's 225th anniversary and it’s the 24th annual Liberty Medal awarded.Ali is considered a leader of civil rights and humanitarian efforts. As a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War he took his case to the Supreme Court and won.Previous Liberty Medal recipients include Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, musician Bono and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, director Steven Spielberg and Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
