New Booting Rules Coming Thursday

Stricter parking regulations that expand the use of car boots will go into effect Thursday in Louisville. The new rules allow parking officials to put immobilizing boots on cars with two or more delinquent parking tickets, even if the cars are parked legally on public property at the time of the booting."For example: If parking meter maids are going down the street and they notice cars that have at least two parking tickets, even if they are legally parked, they will now get the boot," says mayor's spokesperson Chris Poynter.Boot removal will cost $50 and all outstanding fines will have to be paid. Poynter says the tougher policy will generate revenue for the city and cut down on delinquent tickets."We have a lot of people out there, citizens, who owe many tickets," he says. "We can go down the list right now and tell you people who owe 15 and 20 tickets. It's almost beyond belief. It's almost impossible for me to imagine how people can get so many tickets."There are nearly 279 thousand outstanding parking tickets in Louisville with fines totaling $6.5 million.
