New Health Care Law Report Presents Political Dilemma

A report shows nearly 1 million Kentucky residents will be able to buy health insurance thanks to the Affordable Care Act, according to reporting by WFPL's Kenny Colston.President Obama's health care overhaul remains politically divisive, but as more of the law's benefits kick in it may be difficult for opponents to argue against its benefits while it lifts previous barriers against pre-existing conditions for the uninsured.Polling has shown voters are divided over the Affordable Care Act overall, but that certain provisions are popular.U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., who has been a vocal supporter of the law, issued the following statement:"Before the Affordable Care Act, every person living with diabetes, heart disease or other chronic conditions, every cancer survivor, even domestic violence victims and women who had been pregnant, had to worry that they were uninsurable," he says. "The law guarantees that all Kentuckians will be able to receive and afford the vital care they need."Since the Supreme Court upheld the president's law, Republican governors and state legislatures across the country have said they will block the controversial law. Those rejecting the law argue it is an intrusion by the federal government, but questions remain about what those states plan to do about the millions of uninsured residents.
