Officials Hold Talks With LPGA On Possible Event

The Ladies Professional Golf Association and state government officials are in discussions for the L-P-G-A to bring a tournament to Kentucky.   The talks are still preliminary, but have gone on for months.  “We think it would be a great fit.  They want to come here and we would love to have them.  So we’re just got to see if we can make it work out.  We’ve not go to the point where we’ve identified what specific communities would be most likely or courses or anything like that,” said Matt Sawyers, deputy secretary in the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet. L-P-G-A spokeswoman Ally Kicklighter, who played golf at the University of Kentucky, says the main hurdle to getting an event anywhere is lining up a title sponsor and other corporate support. Currently, there are 27 events on the L-P-G-A tour but Kicklighter says there’s always room for another tournament.
