Gabe Bullard joined WFPL in 2008 as a reporter on the city politics beat. Since then, he's reported, blogged, hosted and edited during elections, severe weather and the Fairdale Sasquatch scare of 2009. Before coming to Louisville, Gabe lived in St. Louis, which was his home base for years of growing up, studying and interning at various media outlets around the country.

Eastern Parkway to Close for Tree Removal

A two-block stretch of Eastern Parkway will be closed for several hours over the next few days. Louisville Metro Parks crews are removing four pin oak trees that are reportedly diseased and damaged. The department will close Eastern Parkway between Baxter and Quadrant avenues from 9 am to 3 pm Tuesday through Thursday. Traffic will be detoured one block north, to Edenside Avenue.

Yale Students Present Downtown Distillery Designs for Louisville

The students from the Yale School of Architecture who visited Louisville in February have unveiled their designs for an urban distillery downtown.

The students studied the region on their visit, with a specific focus on Louisville's downtown and the bourbon industry. Their task was to each design a distillery that could stand near First and Main streets, across from the Whiskey Row buildings.

Affordable Care Act Will Help Expand Family Health Centers

Family Health Centers in Louisville will expand under provisions in the federal healthcare overhaul law.

The Affordable Care Act includes funding for grants to community health centers. Family Health Centers will receive $5.3 million dollars under the act to treat more patients. The bulk of the funds will be used to move an east Broadway clinic and expand it to three times its current size. A portion of the money will also be used to renovate a clinic that cares for the homeless.

President Obama in Afghanistan; Will Address U.S. This Evening

President Barack Obama is in Afghanistan. The visit comes one year after the president announced the death of Osama bin Laden, who masterminded the September 11th terrorist attacks from Afghanistan.

President Obama will address the American people live from Bargram Air Base tonight at 7:30 pm. WFPL will carry the speech live, with special coverage from NPR beginning at 7:00 pm. The speech is expected to last about ten minutes.
