Joseph Lord is a Louisville native who was raised in Jeffersontown. He attended Western Kentucky University before covering public safety and later city government for The Anniston (Ala.) Star. He's also covered education for The Tribune and Evening News in southern Indiana and music and pop culture for Velocity, The Courier-Journal's weekly entertainment magazine. 

 Most recently, Joseph has been a digital news reporter for The Courier-Journal. Joseph, 32, and his wife, Brandy Warren, have two daughters and live in the St. Joseph neighborhood.

Kids May Ask About the Newtown Shooting. Be Frank and Reassuring, Psychologist Says

Children see the television news. They hear the radio. Older kids read online.

Many already know that at least 27 people -- 20 of them children, officials say -- died Friday in a school shooting in Newtown, Conn. 

Children can't unsee, unhear or unread the news. But parents can do much to ease anxieties, said a Kentucky psychologist who is part of a team that responds to school shootings.

Researching? Bored? Library Offers Free Newspaper Archives Going Back to 1800s

The Louisville Free Public Library has a new online resource for students working on term papers, history buffs and people suffering from debilitating holiday vacation boredom.

Archives from local, regional and national newspapers -- reaching as far back as the early 1800s -- are now available on the library's website.

Another Nod: Jennifer Lawrence Nominated for Golden Globe

Jennifer Lawrence was nominated Thursday morning in the Golden Globe's best actress in a comedy or musical, her second nod for a major acting award in as many days.

The nomination is for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, a comedy about a man (played by Bradley Cooper) who struggles with mental illness after his marriage disintegrates. Lawrence plays his love interest, who is struggling with depression.

Jennifer Lawrence Nominated for Screen Actors Guild Award

Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence has earned her second Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for outstanding performance by a female actor in a lead role , this time for the comedy Silver Linings Playbook.

Lawrence, 22, was nominated in the same category in 2010 for her breakout role in the indie drama Winter's Bone. Natalie Portman won the award, handed out in early 2011, for her performance in Black Swan.

Report: WKU Football Coach Willie Taggart Leaving for South Florida

Western Kentucky football coach Willie Taggart has accepted the same job at South Florida, just weeks before the Hilltoppers' first bowl appearance since becoming a member of college football's top level in 2008, ESPN.com is reporting Friday night.

Taggart, a Florida native, has coached the Hilltoppers for three season. Western Kentucky was winless the season before he arrived and won just two games his first season.
