About 400 southern Indiana workers could lose their jobs after General Mills announced plans to close its Pillsbury refrigerated goods plant in New Albany by mid-2016.
General Mills announced the planned closing Thursday. It says the decision is subject to negotiation with union officials.
The plant manufactures crescent rolls, pizza dough and other refrigerated baked goods. It has been operated by General Mills since 1959.
General Mills spokeswoman Bridget Christenson says Pillsbury has excess capacity and the decision to close the plant follows a June review of its North American supply chain network.
New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan told The Courier-Journal that it's "a very sad day, one that's very difficult for the employees and their families."
