P&L Railway Train Derails Near Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN — Officials say crews are cleaning up after a train derailed in central Kentucky sending 15 cars carrying coal off the tracks.The News-Enterprise reports thatno injuries were reported when the Paducah & Louisville train derailed early Thursday morning in northern Hardin County. The train had a total of 88 cars. No hazardous materials were involved.The newspaper reports crews from R.J. Corman were cleaning up the site.Last year, a Paducah & Louisville Railway train derailed in southwestern Jefferson County.That train did carry hazardous materials and nearby residents endured evacuation and shelter-in-place orders for days during the clean-up. The railway reported to federal investigators thatthe cause of the 2012 derailment was a broken rail.
