Amazon Expands Jeffersonville Fullfillment Center, Jobs to Follow

More jobs could be coming to Jeffersonville’s River Ridge Commerce Center following the announcement from Internet retail giant Amazon, which plans to expand its operations there over the next several months.

When Indiana’s fifth and largest Amazon fulfillment center opened last fall, it employed between 600 to 800 people, with the potential to hire more. Now, company spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman says Amazon is going to invest in construction within the one-million square foot space, which will essentially expand operations that already exist in the facility.“That expansion is happening now and when we complete the construction we’ll have more jobs available in Jeffersonville," she says.Cheeseman says she can’t project when the company will start hiring or exactly how many jobs the expansion will bring.  Job growth will be based on demand, she says, but the facility currently has over 1,100 employees, many more than it had when it opened.Construction is expected to be complete this summer.
