Big Four Bridge to Open Thursday
The Louisville Waterfront Development Corporation says the long-awaited opening of the Big Four Bridge to pedestrians and bicyclists will be Thursday.
"Thursday at 11:00am we’re going to do what we’ve been calling the soft opening of the Big Four Bridge, meaning, since Indiana is not completed yet, everyone wants up on the bridge, so we’re going for it," said the agency's executive director, David Karem.
The former railroad bridge over the Ohio River connects downtown Louisville and Jeffersonville. The Indiana approach to the bridge is scheduled for completion later this year.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore will take part in an informal ceremony Thursday to open the span.
Karem says the bridge will be open around the clock except for Thunder Over Louisville, when it will be shut down because of FAA airshow safety regulations.
