Bill Clinton Will Campaign for Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky as Feud With Rand Paul Escalates

The last Democratic presidential nominee to carry Kentucky is coming to campaign for Alison Lundergan Grimes this month.

As first reported by The Courier-Journal's Joe Gerth, former U.S. President Bill Clinton will be in Louisville on Feb. 25.The visit further underscores the importance of the Senate race for Democrats and Republicans nationally, as Grimes vies for GOP Leader Mitch McConnell's seat. From the C-J: "We are very excited to have President Clinton coming into town to make his first campaign stop of this election cycle,” Grimes said in an interview Friday. "I was elated when he called and said he wanted to make this race his top priority," she said.Details have yet to be released, but Bill Clinton's visit puts Kentucky center stage for more than just the Senate race.Recently, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., a rumored 2016 presidential candidate, has bashed the former president over the Lewinsky sex scandal, going as far to say Clinton exhibited predatory behavior.Paul added more fuel this Friday, saying Democrats should return any campaign money raised by the 42nd president."They can’t have it both ways. And so I really think that anybody who wants to take money from Bill Clinton or have a fundraiser has a lot of explaining to do. In fact, I think they should give the money back," Paul said in an interview with C-SPAN. "If they want to take position on women’s rights, by all means do. But you can’t do it and take it from a guy who was using his position of authority to take advantage of young women in the workplace."Paul has endorsed McConnell for re-election and has also taken jabs at Bill Clinton's wife, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who like Paul is a potential 2016 presidential contender.
