Bluegrass Pipeline Opponents Rally in Frankfort

Opponents of a proposed natural gas liquids pipeline in Kentucky have taken their fight to Frankfort. They say the project will damage the environment and cause safety concerns for those living nearby. About 80 people from across the state gathered at the state Capitol on Wednesday to ask Gov. Steve Beshear to put several pipeline-related issues on the agenda for this month's special legislative session.(Related: Past coverage of the Bluegrass Pipeline issue)The demonstrators delivered a petition to Beshear that was signed by more than 5,000 people. They want the state's pipeline regulations updated to cover passages carrying natural gas liquids. They also want Kentucky's eminent domain laws clarified—it's unclear whether the company building the pipeline could use eminent domain to put it on private land.If it's built, the Bluegrass Pipeline would cross Kentucky from Bracken to Breckenridge County, transporting materials like butane and ethane to the Gulf Coast for processing.
