Brendan McCarthy is WFPL's New Interim News Director

Starting today, Brendan McCarthy leads the newsrooms for both WFPL and the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting.

He'll be the interim news director, adding on the responsibilities of Gabe Bullard, WFPL's director for news and editorial strategy. Bullard is heading to Harvard University in August for a Nieman Fellowship.Before departing, he'll help with the transition and work on other strategic initiatives. Bullard will return to Louisville in June 2015. 

McCarthy will guide WFPL and theKyCIRas two entities within one newsroom. Both are part of Louisville Public Media.

McCarthy joined the KyCIR in June 2013.He previously worked as an investigative reporter for WWL-TV in New Orleans and for The Times-Picayune. As we reported then:
At The Times-Picayune, McCarthy was a finalist with  two others reporters for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting for a  series on an unsolved murder.He also co-wrote a series on police abusesa fter Hurricane Katrina and assisted in exposing U.S. Sen. David Vitter's affair with a prostitute.
