Charging Commitee Ready to Move On Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin's Removal Hearing

The charging committee that petitioned to remove embattled Louisville Metro Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin announced it's ready to move forward with a hearing following its executive session meeting Thursday.

Shanklin was found guilty of violating several provisions of the city’s ethics code this year by Louisville’s Ethics Commission, which recommended she be removed from the council.

Prosecuting attorney David Tachau is representing the five council member charging committee. He says the group reviewed documents from the Louisville Police investigation into allegations against Shanklin, which was separate from her ethics case.  No charges were filed against her.

“Much of that [the police investigation] has now been produced to the charging committee so we were reviewing some of what we were able to examine of that file so far and discuss other possible leads and witnesses and information that those witnesses may have,” he says.

Tachau says he expects the 20-member council court to convene for the first time as a court on Monday and to discuss next steps.

The charging committee will meet again next Wednesday.
