College Football: Rebuilding Wildcats Hoping to Snap 26-Game Losing Streak to Gators
The University of Kentucky football team will try to end a long losing streak to Florida when the Wildcats take on the Gators tomorrow in Lexington.
Kentucky’s last win over Florida was in November of 1986, a 10-3 victory at Commonwealth Stadium.
Last season, the Gators beat the Wildcats for the 26th straight time, a 38-0 drubbing in Gainesville.
First-year UK coach Mark Stoops says his players can use the streak as motivation if they want, but shouldn’t let it become a distraction.
"Our message has been to our team since I’ve been here to control what we can control, to control today, this upcoming game. We’re trying to get better one game at a time, really one play at a time," he said.
UK is off to a 1-2 start on the season. Saturday’s kickoff is at 7:00pm. It's the SEC opener for the Wildcats. After Florida, they'll take on number 12 South Carolina and top-ranked Alabama.
The Louisville Cardinals are off this weekend. They’ll open play in the new American Athletic Conference next Saturday at Temple. Indiana also has an open date. The 2-2 Hoosiers host Penn State next weekend.
