College Football: U of L vs USF, UK-Georgia, IU at Navy
After three straight road games, the University of Louisville football team returns to Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium Saturday.
The 14th ranked Cards take on South Florida, which has struggled to a 2-4 record this season. Coach Charlie Strong’s team is 6-0 and coming off a 45-35 win at Pittsburgh last weekend, but Strong says there’s still plenty of room for improvement, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
"You watch us play and we can play about four good series and all of a sudden, boom, we give up a play that we shouldn’t give up, and that happened to us there on Saturday. But what’s really good is that our players understand that and they know that they have to play much better than what we’re playing," Strong said.
Kickoff for Saturday's homecoming game at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is 3:30pm.
In Lexington, the Kentucky Wildcats will try to end their five-game losing skid, but it will be an uphill battle as UK takes on number 13 Georgia. Kickoff is 7:00pm.
UK’s 1-6 record has raised the volume of talk about a coaching change. Head coach Joker Phillips says he has regular conversations with athletic director Mitch Barnhart, but there have been no discussions about his future.
"He’s been very encouraging, nothing you (reporters) want to get at," Phillips said this week. "One thing Mitch and I are, we’re friends, and that’s more important to me than anything on the business side. We are friends."
Indiana (2-4) returns to action Saturday at Navy.
