Federal Judge Hears Libertarian Candidate's Arguments Against KET

A federal judge is hearing arguments this morning about whether the Libertarian candidate should be included in a televised debate of Kentucky U.S. Senate candidates.

David Patterson sued Kentucky Educational Television for not inviting him to the debate Monday between incumbent Republican Senator Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. The event will likely be the only time voters will see the two debate on statewide television before the Nov. 4 election.Patterson is a police officer in Harrodsburg. His campaign submitted well over the required 5,000 signatures needed under state law to be on the November ballot. He's on the ballot, but KET did not invited him to participate in the debate.KET changed its requirements this year to say a candidate must have maintained an active campaign website by mid-August, have raised $100,000, and polled at 10 percent or more in an independent survey.
