Filing Deadline Set for 2014 Kentucky Elections

Early election filings for 2014 elections have begun.The Kentucky Secretary of State's office has announced that candidates wishing to run for office in 2014 will be able to file their candidacy through Jan. 28."My office is accepting filing papers for candidates from across the Commonwealth," said Alison Lundergan Grimes, the secretary of state, in a statement. "We oversee the candidate filings for more than 300 offices that are on Kentucky ballots next year."Grimes’ office reports that 19 seats in the Kentucky Senate and 100 House seats will be up for re-election next year.More than 250 judicial seats—from family court up to federal judgeships—will be open, too.So far, a handful of candidates have filed their papers as of the Nov. 6 opening of filing season, including incumbent Louisville Democratic Rep. Tom Burch, and Louisville Metro Councilman Jerry Miller, R-19, who will be running for an open seat in the state’s 36th House district, which was created—along with the 48th, 53rd and 99th districts—as a result of new electoral boundaries adopted bythe Kentucky General Assembly this year.The deadline is at 4 p.m. on Jan. 28 2014.
