Former Metro Councilwoman Judy Green Dies

Former Louisville Metro Councilwoman Judy Green, who was ousted from office after allegations that she abused a city jobs program to benefit her family, has died.Green represented District 1 in western  and southwestern Louisville.  A dentist by trade, Green was first elected to the council in 2006. In 2011, a council court removed Green from office after ruling that she'd mismanaged taxpayer money and committed misconduct."Judy had a good heart and she loved her community,” Mayor Greg Fischer said in a statement. “My thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.”There were mixed media reports early Tuesday regarding Green's condition, though all have reported that she had a heart attack overnight, but at least one media outlet says she was in "grave condition" but still on life support.Attica Woodson Scott, who was appointed to the District 1 seat after Green was removed, noted that Green was the matriarch of a large family."Right now, my focus is on sending healing energy and comforting energy to the family," Scott said. "The people of District 1 know that she left a political legacy. ... She tried to do the best that she could to take care of District 1."Metro Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton, D-5, said: "Judy Green loved this community. She loved her children. And she loved service. She was all about service and giving back to this community.""Despite what happened, Judy continued to serve this community. I've known her for years, I knew she had health issues, but it's always a shock when you hear about good people going. It's going to be a loss — it's going to be a loss for this community."
