The Healing Place Begins Campaign To Raise $1 Million

A Louisville-based agency that provides drug and alcohol recovery services for the homeless has launched a campaign to raise $1 million by the end of year.

The Healing Place founder Jay Davidson says the money is needed to help avoid cutting some of its support services.

"Over the last couple of years we’ve seen public and private donations decrease because of the economic crisis.  At the same time, because of that crisis, we’ve seen costs rise for food, for toiletries, just maintenance, replacement of equipment.  So what that caused me to do is to spend some of my cash reserves," he said.

Davidson says The Healing Place has already cut costs across the board to make up for the drop in donations, and will be forced to cut services such as children and parenting programs and a free clinic if it can’t raise the money.

Most of the agency’s $5 million budget comes from private donations.
