House Republicans' Agenda Includes Tax Code Updates, Reduced Spending

Kentucky’s House Republicans have unveiled the agenda they will pursue if the party wins a majority of the chamber this fall. The GOP has focused its attention this year on unseating Democrats in the state House. To help that effort, House Republicans have promised to address fiscal issues, taxes and government reform if elected.Republican leader Jeff Hoover says, among other issues, the GOP will require that every bill be read before a vote.“We’re talking about a proposal that no bill, in particular the budget bill, could not be voted on within 48 hours after it’s put out to the public,” he said.Hoover says his party also wants to change the state tax code and rein in spending.Democratic Speaker Greg Stumbo dismissed the plan as recycled GOP ideas that Kentucky voters have consistently rejected.
