Indiana Lawmakers Prep For 2013 Session
Indiana state lawmakers held their organizational session today in preparation for the 2013 General Assembly.
The House and Senate meetings were largely ceremonial.
Brian Bosma was sworn in for a second term as Speaker of the House, where Republicans now hold a supermajority.
Bosma pledged to work closely with the Democratic minority, saying everyone needs to deal with critical issues like fiscal stability, job creation and education.
"And just as families across the state will have to do, we will sit on the floor of this House and in the committee rooms of this building and work through these monumental issues together," Bosma said in a floor speech.
In the Senate, President Pro Tem David Long sounded a similar theme, saying lawmakers will face some new budget challenges with the coming implementation of the federal health care law.
The 2013 General Assembly begins January 7.
