Indiana's Oladipo, Zeller in Top Five of NBA Draft; UK's Noel Goes Sixth
Indiana standouts Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller and Kentucky’s Nerlens Noel were among the first ten players selected in the first round of the National Basketball Association draft Thursday night.
Oladipo, drafted by the Orlando Magic, was the second overall pick. Zeller was fourth in the draft, chosen by the Charlotte Bobcats.
Noel, who had been projected by some as the top pick even after suffering a season-ending injury in February, was the sixth overall selection. He was drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans, who later announced plans to trade Noel to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Louisville center Gorgui Dieng was selected 21st in the draft by the Utah Jazz, which announced plans to trade him to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Kentucky guard Archie Goodwin was the second-to-last pick of the first round. He was chosen 29th by the Oklahoma City Thunder, which plans to trade him to the Phoenix.
Louisville guard Peyton Siva, who led the Cards to the NCAA championship this year, was drafted in the second round--the 56th overall pick--by the Detroit Pistons.
The number one overall pick in the NBA draft was UNLV’s Anthony Bennett, who was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
