Input Sought for Campaign to Boost Louisville's Tree Canopy

Louisville’s Urban Forester will host a community meeting Wednesday to get ideas for the launch of a campaign to plant more trees in the city and improve its tree canopy coverage.

Erin Thompson says the meeting begins at 4:30pm at Whitehall House and Gardens on Lexington Road.

She says ideas are encouraged on all facets of the campaign.

"What do they like and how could we make it better?  Get their suggestions, if they think this type of material, this type of tree campaign could be beneficial to them or what their needs are in their little niche of our community," she said.

The city has a long term goal of reaching a tree canopy coverage of 45 percent.

Thompson says that can help reduce the urban heat island effect, improve storm water draining and provide other benefits.

Anyone planning to attend the meeting is asked to RSVP Thompson at Erin.Thompson@louisvilleky.gov or 502-574-4030.
