It's the Home Finale for Joker Phillips, 19 Seniors as UK Faces Samford
Joker Phillips will coach the final home game of his University of Kentucky football head coaching tenure tomorrow as the Wildcats host Samford.
Phillips is being let go after three years on the job. He’ll coach UK’s two final games of the season.
He told reporters this week that he hopes his successor will be given plenty of time to build the program into a national contender.
"The next guy needs to get 5-7 years," Phillips said. "I’m not one to say that ‘I didn’t get (that long),’ don’t worry about that, that’s all in the past. But I think the next guy needs to get 5-7 years before anybody can begin to evaluate him."
Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart said he would launch the search for a new coach immediately but has not indicated who might be on his short list of candidates.
UK and Samford kick off at 7:30pm tomorrow. It’s also the final home game for 19 Kentucky seniors.
The 9-1 Louisville Cardinals have the weekend off. They’ll host Connecticut on November 24 and finish the regular season the following Friday at Rutgers.
Indiana must win its final two regular season games to keep any bowl hopes alive. The 4-6 Hoosiers visit Penn State tomorrow.
