J. Blaine Hudson Steps Down as University of Louisville Dean

J. Blaine Hudson is resigning  at the end December as dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Louisville, a post he's held since 2004.

Hudson took a leave of absence in Augustfor medical reasons. He told faculty then in an e-mail that he'd had cranial surgery but his prognosis was positive.At that time, Hudson was also the chair of Louisville Metro's Violence Prevention Work Group, formed in the wake of the May daytime shooting in the Parkland neighborhoodthat left three people dead. Hudson also stepped down from that high-profile post in August.Hudson will return to the college's faculty in 2014. He's taught Pan-African studies and history classes at the University of Louisville, chairing the Pan-African studies department from 1998 to 2003 before becoming an associate dean, UofL said in a news release.John Ferre is currently serving as acting dean of Arts & Sciences, the largest academic unit at the University of Louisville.The Violence Prevention Work Group made its recommendations in October.
