Jefferson County Public Schools is extending its initial school application and registration period by five days.

Spokesman Ben Jackey says the deadline was moved to Wednesday, January 15 because this week’s inclement weather kept some families from getting to registration sites or accessing the Internet.

"We think it’s really, really important that families get their applications in the initial period because it does give them a better opportunity to get their first choice, be it their reside school or the traditional schools or the magnet schools that are very popular," Jackey said.

Parents can fill out applications in person at two sites or sign up online.

Trained staff are set up at these locations for parents/guardians who need assistance:

Duvalle Education Center, 3610 Bohne Avenue on Monday, January 13 from 8:00am to noon.

Lam Building, 4309 Bishop Lane on January 8, 9, 10, 13, 14 and 15, open until 7:00pm.

The JCPS Parent Assistance Center can be reached at 485-6250.   Families for whom English is a second language can call 485-3563.
