JCPS Is Investigating Male High School's Principal

Jefferson County Public Schools launched an investigation Friday into Male High School Principal David Mike's "professional behavior"  and allegations of "improper practices at the school," a district spokesman said in an e-mail.The investigation was launched by the assistant superintendent  who oversees Male, Paige Hartstern, following multiple complaints, JCPS spokesman Ben Jackey said.Jackey declined to provide much information about the investigation. But he said the inquiry did not involve testing—a recent controversy at one of Louisville's more prominent high schools.Earlier this month, WDRB's Chris Otts wrote that eight Male High seniors alleged that school staff helped them or other students on a standardized college-readiness test. WDRB's Chris Otts—whofirst reported the JCPS investigation—added: And three of the students say Male Principal David Mike told them not to tell investigators about being helped on the ACT Compass test, which schools can use to show that students are “college ready.” The students’ claims could be leading to a new turn in investigations of Male’s testing practices by the ACT organization and the Kentucky Department of Education.Jackey said JCPS does not have a timeline for the investigation.
