Sixteen percent of Jefferson County residents don't have health insurance, according to data recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. That's just about even with the state average. The data is from 2011. It also shows that Oldham County has the smallest percentage of resident who are uninsured, with just less than 11 percent not having coverage. The least-insured county is Logan, with more than 22 percent of residents lacking coverage. As might be expected, lower-income residents are less likely to have insurance. Twenty-three percent of those making 400 percent or less of the federal poverty line don't have coverage.Statewide, uninsured rates are down slightly from last year (17.5 percent), but up from 2008 (15 percent), the lowest year measured.Kentucky also falls about in the middle nationwide, though slightly below the national average. Texas is the least-insured state, with nearly 26 percent of residents uncovered. Massachusetts has the most-covered population. About 95 percent of residents have insurance.(Image via Shutterstock)
