Keeneland Sets Attendance, Wagering Records
Records for attendance and wagering were set during the just completed fall racing meet at Keeneland. More than 259,000 people came to the Lexington track during the 17-day meet.
That’s well over 9,000 more than last fall’s 75th anniversary meet.
“I’d like to say yes we would like to continue to set the attendance records. I’m not sure how realistic a goal that is. What we’re realistic about is bring more people out on the Wednesdays, the Thursdays, and the Sundays and doing that and hopefully having a lot of nice fall days for people to come enjoy the sport,” says Rogers Beasley, Keeneland's Vice President of Racing.
All-sources wagering was up nearly seven percent, at almost $141 million.
Beasley says at least eight horses that ran at Keeneland are heading to California to compete in this weekend’s Breeders Cup Championships.
