Kentucky Wildcats Ousted From NIT by Robert Morris, 59-57; Bellarmine Falls in NCAA Div. II
The season is over for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team.
The top-seeded Wildcats were defeated 59-57 tonight by Robert Morris University in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Robert Morris jumped out to an early lead before a sellout home crowd of 3,000 in Moon Township, Pennsylvania and held off several Kentucky runs.
UK missed a three-pointer as time expired and Robert Morris fans stormed the court in celebration. The Colonials will face either Providence or Charlotte in the second round of the NIT.
Kentucky started the season ranked third in the country. The Wildcats finish with a record of 21-12.
In the men’s NCAA Division Two tournament, the Bellarmine Knights were eliminated by Drury, 67-61, in a third-round game in Springfield, Missouri. Drury advances to the tournament quarterfinals next week in Louisville.
