Latest 'Battle of the Bluegrass' to be Fought in Indianapolis
For the second time in three years, the Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats will play each other in the men’s NCAA tournament Friday night. The teams will face off in the tournament’s Sweet Sixteen round in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
UK is coming off a dramatic victory over undefeated Wichita State. Coach John Calipari says it took longer than he expected, but his players now have an understanding of their roles on the court. “Individuals are losing themselves into the team, so they’re playing better and more confident. The other thing is, because we’ve been through so much throughout the year, they’re stronger. So a little lull in the game doesn’t affect them. They’ve been through all that,” he said.
Rick Pitino’s Cardinals are the defending national champions and looking for their third straight Final Four appearance. “Look, we all teach fundamentals, we all teach the game. But the joy of college coaching is the nurturing of young people. It’s really fun to see Russ and Luke and VT grow up into young men. They’re really wonderful people,” Pitino said after U of L beat St. Louis to advance to the regional semifinal.
Kentucky has won five of the last six against Louisville, including a 2012 Final Four game and a regular season victory in December. Tipoff for Friday’s game in Indianapolis is around 9:45pm.
