A new candidate has entered the race for a soon-to-be open seat on the Jefferson County School Board.Louisville attorney Stephanie Horne is looking to fill Debbie Wesslund’s seat in the board’s 3rd district, which covers northeast Jefferson County.Wesslund announced in March that she was stepping down after her term ends.Horne said it is imperative to ensure that every child has the "opportunity to reach his or her full potential.""I am passionate about our public schools," she said in a statement announcing her decision to seek election to the school board.Horne graduated from high school when she was 16-years-old and attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.She is a practicing real estate attorney, a member of the JCPS calendar committee, and president of the parent teacher association at Ballard High School.  Her two children are in the JCPS system.Wesslund has served on the board for eight years and said she is ready to support Horne’s bid.“I’ve known Stephanie for a number of years, she is a big public school advocate and that is what I like about her. She is very effective in everything she does, she has been involved in her school, she is a professional in her community and is very well known and I think very highly of Stephanie.”
