Louisville Ballet Names Cara Hicks General Manager

The Louisville Ballet announced yesterday that current Director of Marketing Cara Hicks will be the company's new general manager. Hicks joined the Ballet in 2011, and has worked for several major Louisville arts nonprofits, including Actors Theatre of Louisville and the Kentucky Opera. She will move into her new role on March 3.As general manager, Hicks will head up the administrative and financial side of the Ballet, working with the artistic staff to plan and reach the company's programmatic and organizational goals. This new position for the company replaces the executive director position, which Artistic Director Bruce Simpson, who will retire after this season, has also filled for the last several years. In the role of general manager, Hicks will play a key role in the leadership transition as the company enters a national search for a new artistic director. In a release, Simpson expressed his support for Hicks' promotion "at this important juncture in the Company's history." “Her intellectual knowledge not only of the Company and its cultural partners but also of the community will, I believe, be invaluable. I look forward to partnering with her as the Company moves forward into a promising future,” he said. The Louisville Ballet has two performances left in its 2013-14 season. "La Sylphide," a Romantic ballet set in Scotland, opens February 21, and the company's traditional season ender, the mixed repertory program, opens April 4.
