Louisville Cardinals, Kentucky Wildcats 'Ready to Play' in Battle of the Bluegrass
The Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats renew their annual men’s basketball rivalry tomorrow in Lexington.
The defending national champion Cards are 11-1 on season. The Wildcats are 9-3 and won the title the previous year.
UK coach John Calipari says he’s been trying to get his young team to improve its focus.
"Stuff happens in a game. You can’t worry about officiating, forget about it. You don’t control it. A bad bounce of the ball, a turnover, you made the right play (but) you missed the shot, so what? They come down and make two bomb threes, one of them banks in. So what? Just play. All that other stuff is clutter," he said.
U of L won last year’s Battle of the Bluegrass by three points. Kentucky leads the overall series 30 to 15.
U of L coach Rick Pitino says fans on both sides should be excited about the matchup.
"We know when we play Kentucky they will be emotionally ready, they will be physically ready, the crowd will be (emotional). When I was at Kentucky we weren’t going to sneak up on Louisville and Louisville’s not going to sneak up on Kentucky. You’re going to have people physically and emotionally ready to play the game," Pitino said.
Tipoff at Rupp Arena is 4:00pm Saturday.
