Louisville Cardinals to Play for Women's National Championship

The University of Louisville women’s basketball team has joined the men’s program in playing for a NCAA championship this week.

Antonita Slaughter led the fifth-seeded Cards with 18 points as U of L advanced to the title game with a 64-57 comeback victory tonight over number two seed California.

U of L will face Connecticut for the women’s championship Tuesday in New Orleans.  The Huskies defeated Notre Dame in the other national semifinal.

Louisville and Connecticut last played for the title in 2009, when UConn defeated the Cards 76-54.

The Louisville men’s team will take on Michigan Monday night in the NCAA title game in Atlanta.
