Louisville Metro Council Committee Approves Natural Gas Fee
A Louisville Metro Council committee has narrowly approved an ordinance that would raise the natural gas bills of most LG&E customers in the city by three percent to generate new revenue under Mayor Greg Fischer’s budget proposal.
The council’s budget committee voted 4-3 Thursday for the measure, which will be considered by the full council next week.
Fischer has said the franchise fee would result in an average cost of $20 per year for customers.
Greater Louisville Inc., the Metro Chamber of Commerce, came out in opposition to the fee Thursday.
Fischer says the extra money is needed to fund additional public safety initiatives and related projects.
The fee would not be applied to residents of smaller cities within the Metro area.
