Matt Bevin TV Ad Puts Mitch McConnell in Duke Jersey Ahead of Louisville-Kentucky Matchup
Republican Senate candidate Matt Bevin is launching a new TV ad Friday that clads incumbent Mitch McConnell in a Duke University jersey.
"March Madness in Kentucky: commitment, courage—you got to love it. Even if your team isn't in the tournament," says Bevin, referencing a McConnell campaign ad that mistakenly showed Duke's 2010 NCAA champion victory instead of Kentucky.
The 30-second spot will run during the Louisville v. Kentucky NCAA Sweet 16 tournament game set for this evening. It introduces viewers to Bevin as the more conservative option in the GOP primary and reminds voters about McConnell's recent campaign mishap.
The $40,000 ad buy will run in the Louisville and Lexington media markets.
McConnell campaign spokeswoman Allison Moore reacted to the new by rehashing their previous attacks against that Bevin has been a dishonest candidate.
"Given Bailout Bevin's undying commitment to a fictional account of himself and Senator McConnell, we actually expected this ad to be about the time he won a national championship back in the 80s as a point guard for the MIT Engineers. Matt Bailout Bevin is not who he says he is, and he's certainly not a Kentucky conservative," she says.
