Ministry Moves Hub to Louisville, Critics Follow

A evangelical ministry has moved its hub from Maryland to Louisville and has quietly settled into Louisville following criticism of its leadership.Last year Sovereign Grace Ministries president C.J. Mahaney stepped aside while a church board reviewed allegations that he had acted inappropriately against other church leaders. The board review the allegations and reinstated Mahaney this year saying his teaching was in line with the church’s beliefs."We do not believe C.J. Mahaney's confessed sins have disqualified him from Christian ministry," said a report for the SGM board of directors. Now the ministry, which itself has been criticized for its male-dominated leadership in homes and churches, is trying to grow its base partly through its pastor-teaching program, which hopes to partner with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Southern Baptist president Albert Mohler says he considers Mahaney a good friend, and while the two don’t share a denomination, there are many similar values.“We’re very glad to come alongside them and offer graduate Theological education that can assist them so that their students can gain the fully spectrum in terms of Theological programs for ministry," said Mohler.SGM has around 95 churches in several states in the U.S. and some countries including Canada, Mexico and Germany, according to its website. The ministry would not comment for this story.
