Mitch McConnell, Alison Lundergan Grimes to Headline Fancy Farm 2013

The campaigns of Republican U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and Democratic Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes have confirmed both will be attending the 2013 Fancy Farm picnic, Kentucky's premier political event. The picnic will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two since Grimes announced her intentions to run against McConnell in next year's election.National Democrats and Republicans have been bombarding the respective candidates with almost daily criticisms almost a year and half before the election. But that may pale in comparison to the event in Graves County, Ky., which for 132 years has been known for its raucous audience members who shout down speakers.Observers are eagerly anticipating the showdown, however.Other elected officials who have confirmed to attend this year's Fancy Farm are Republican Congress Ed Whitfield and Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway and State Auditor Adam Edelen. The 133rd Fancy Farm is scheduled for August 3.
