Muhammad Ali Center to Present Humanitarian Awards

The first annual Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards will be given out later this year in Louisville.

Six people age 35 and under will receive awards for their contributions to peace and justice.

Ali Center spokesperson Jeanie Kahnke says the awards are based on Muhammad Ali’s six core principles.

"Confidence, conviction, dedication, respect, spirituality, and giving, and those are the principles that Muhammad Ali has embodied throughout his life. So it was only natural that we take aspects of Muhammad’s life and legacy and use them for awards to sort of carry it forward for the younger generation," she said.

There will also be awards for Humanitarian of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and Kentucky Humanitarian of the Year.

The event will be held October 3 at the Galt House Hotel.
