Orb is the Solid Favorite in Nine-Horse Preakness Field
Despite a less-than-ideal post position draw, Kentucky Derby winner Orb remains the solid favorite for tomorrow’s Preakness Stakes, the second leg of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown.
Orb is coming off a two-and-a-half length Derby victory and trainer Shug McGaughey says he “couldn’t be more pleased” with the colt’s workouts over the past two weeks.
He’ll run from post position one, along the rail, but many racing analysts say that shouldn’t hold him back from a Preakness victory and a shot at becoming the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.
Orb was made the morning line, even-money favorite.
Other top contenders in the nine-horse Preakness field are Orb’s former stable mate Departing, winner of the Illinois Derby, and Mylute, who finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby.
Post time for the Preakness is about 6:20pm tomorrow at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
