ORSANCO to Make Final Decision on Mercury Variance Thursday
The regulatory body that oversees pollution in the Ohio River is holding its fall meeting in Louisville this week.
The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission—or ORSANCO—is made up of representatives from eight states and the federal government. The body meets three times a year.
On the agenda for Thursday’s meeting is a variance to allow a West Virginia company to discharge more mercury into the river than it’s allowed to under upcoming stricter standards. ORSANCO has already preliminarily approved the variance request, but the commissioners will make a final decision at the meeting.
The meeting is at 9 am Thursday at the Brown Hotel.
