Pitino Says Harrell to Assess Draft Projections Before Declaring for NBA
University of Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino says Montrezl Harrell hasn’t decided yet if he will return for his junior season with the Cardinals.
Pitino has been holding meetings with his players since the Cards were eliminated from the NCAA tournament Friday, and is advising Harrell to wait for projections on where he might be picked in the NBA draft before making a decision on turning pro.
Harrell was the Cards' leading rebounder this past season and was second in scoring average.
"We’re going to be very good with or without him," Pitino said at his season-end press conference Monday.
"Now, we’ll be much better with him, because we’ll be older and more experienced. We’re still going to be very, very good, because our backcourt is good and our frontcourt will improve."
Pitino also said U of L won’t place any restrictions on where guard Kevin Ware can transfer. Ware announced over the weekend that he’s leaving the program to be closer to his family. Ware had some setbacks this year in his recovery from a gruesome leg injury suffered during last season’s NCAA tournament, but Pitino says he’s now 100 percent healthy.
