Rauch Planetarium to Unveil New Projection System
The University of Louisville’s Rauch Planetarium will reopen this Saturday with an upgraded projection system.
The planetarium has been closed for a month to allow for the installation of the $215,000 digital system.
Director Tom Tretter says audiences will now get a 360-degree visual experience when watching shows under the planetarium’s 55-foot dome.
"We’re able to really put people into the scene, and with that full 360 degrees, you capture all of the senses, if you will, the visual senses around you and you can become immersed in the story of science, if you will," Tretter said.
Tretter says the upgraded system will also allow the planetarium to present newer, digitally produced shows.
Saturday’s re-opening will include two new shows, one for children, the other for all ages.
